What benefits small n medium-sized businesses get from social networks? Candidly speaking, no experts can point a social medium and state "this" is the best to get hefty profits. According to a survey from Social Media Examiner, 89% of small n medium-sized businesses (SMBs) report increased exposure and 75% report increased traffic as the two greatest benefits of social networks. Some of other benefits cited were marketplace insight (69%), loyal fans (65%), lead generation (61%), and improved search rankings (58%). With respondents receiving many benefits from the networks, it's little wonder that 79% have integrated social networks into their marketing activities.
From other research we have covered, here are a few other reasons that local businesses should have social networks on the radar:
Why go social?
Social networks are an integral part of your customers' - and your competitors' lives. An estimated 71 million Americans check social profiles several times daily. They are using social networks to research products, review companies, and conduct local searches. This adds up to 27% of all time spent online.
Also, 82% of small businesses owners are already using Facebook to promote their business. If you aren't already on Facebook, your competitors probably are. Don't let them monopolize your audience on social networks! The infographic details a few more reasons why your company should use social networks. 45% of online adults regularly check out brand pages.
People are 1.5 times more likely to remember a Facebook post than a sentence from a book and 2,5 times more likely to remember a Facebook post than a random face.
Upcoming social trends for small business
Social trends to pay attention to this year include emphasis on branding, growing prevalence of video content, and of course the growing influence of mobile technology.
These days, it's all about social networking. Both personally and professionally, you've probably heard of dozens of sites that are out there and that you "need" to be using them. It can be confusing and overwhelming to keep track of what's what, and to know what you need to be doing.
There are really SEVENTEEN social networks channel for small businesses that I'd personally recommend putting time and energy (and money) into. In no specific order, I will "dumb down" each channel and help you understand how each works (list on the left pane):
If there was any doubt that social media had room to thrive outside of Facebook's wall garden, it must be gone by now. With the success of Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and other sites, it's more important now than ever for businesses to understand the various social networks and what audience they cater to. Choosing the social media channels that are right for your business are essential to having success with digital marketing. Figure out which ones fit your business objectives the best, and focus your energy into making them triumph.
